Thank you for being in a position to lead the way and for noticing that it is time we do things better in our work places.
We get it. You are a leader in your own element who deeply cares about your role, team success and people’s lives. You see both the individual and collective struggles that teams endure in the workplace.
Many days, talking to the leadership team can feel like an uphill battle. On one hand, you see what could be possible with an optimized work environment. On the other, you see roadblocks and team headbutting.
When an employee personally confides in you, you care about success in all areas of their life, not just work. You value them as the whole person they are.
You find great worth in the work you do and the role you play. Yet, it feels like something is missing for you.
Coming home emotionally exhausted and ready for that glass of wine is getting old. You are ready for a better way.
There are many managers, directors, and consultants who are tired of struggling against the archaic leadership hierarchies and ready to bring teams together as a more cohesive and fun community. There are many corporate professionals ready to both feel inspired about coming to work and to be a source of inspiration to others.

Yet, here is the thing.
It is very common to address work issues by making these attempts:
Leaders get into leadership because they have a vision and a strong personality for implementation. Many leaders, consciously or unconsciously, can become stuck in their ways. As a result, the employees often feel stranded and left alone to clean up the messes.
Putting in long hours, becoming overly invested, and staying up late ruminating, might help minimize flooding, yet it is not sustainable or effective.
The other issue is that offering any temporary solution becomes a Band-Aid. When people are working in an environment with chronic underlying issues, they turn to more covert tactics like gossiping or undermining. People’s personal lives start taking the hit. They bring their stress home or turn to unhealthy habits to try to mitigate the stressors at work.
We also see this when doing a one-time fun activity to raise morale. In the moment, the activity is meaningful and often quite enjoyable. The problem is that most morale boosting techniques are temporary until we address the root cause of the communication breakdowns and headbutting.
While reading books or taking weekend workshops can lead to insights and small shifts, the bigger issue is that each team, each individual, and each organization has its own unique success formula. No book or workshop, no matter how well-intentioned, can fully identify everything a unique situation, team, or work culture needs to thrive.
What's missing is a way to integrate the intelligence of the group by facilitating more inspiring and collaborative conversations. When this happens, it is a huge breath of fresh air for everyone involved.
- Putting in really long hours to try to close gaps,
- Staying up late at night ruminating on solutions,
- Trying to provide creativity or team building exercises to reestablish trust,
- Becoming overly emotionally invested in trying to course correct,
- Bringing everyone’s attention to the positive elements, hoping for cohesion to develop,
- Going out of your way to intervene when emotions run high, or
- Going out on a limb to try to convince leadership to shift their strategies.

Let's talk solutions.
To foster sustainable change, versus attempting to convince people and teams to change their ways, requires integrating these critical elements:
1. Put down the fight. Instead... invite!
There is an ancient saying, “Instead of cursing the darkness, turn on the light.” What motivates you to be a part of the solution?
Discovering our motivations transforms how we communicate, show up, and therefore, how we are received. What is the source of your inspiration?
Inspired is the opposite of tired. Showing up inspired makes a huge difference when inviting forward movement, boosting morale, and unleashing creativity.
Since people naturally resist change, it is 10x easier to invite a new possibility in. People love new possibilities.
Learning how to invite inspiration into hard conversations and situations is a breath of fresh air for everyone!
Consider, ACIM teaches, “Miracles are natural. When they don’t occur, something has gone wrong.” Learn to drop “push energy” and instead invite a new possibility!
2. Cultivate the "Wisdom of We"
When the going gets tough, we tend to silo efforts and put our nose to the grindstone. This leads to missed opportunities for ease and flow.
Knowing how to facilitate the wisdom of the group and put aside individual efforts is a huge gift of relief to everyone. This may seem counterintuitive at first. Yet, there is great wisdom in “united we stand, divided we fall.”
This element also speaks to a fuller understanding of how we can weave in multiple human intelligences (social, emotional, intellectual, relational) for the benefit of the whole.
Learn the skills required to invite the “wisdom of we” to come forward so that you can streamline processes and invite lasting collaboration.
3. Consider Proper Timing
Lastly, I have news that will be music to your ears. You don’t need to own an organization to inspire excellent leadership. Understanding timing is elemental.
Anyone, at any level, can inspire excellent leadership when they combine the art of invitation with properly diagnosing timing. Timing is key to understanding success readiness.
Imagine a team newly inspired into being supportive, cohesive, healthy and helpful. Now introduce a fun team building exercise! Any action will go ten times further when you time it after a shift has been made.
In essence, when you integrate all of these elements in your professional approach, solutions begin to materialize with greater ease and work flow returns to being productive and fun again.
You can coach leaders, people, and/or teams into their excellence zone. You do not need fancy equipment to evoke excellence… you are the equipment!
